1) The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas
2) Man on Wire
3) Jar City
4) I've Loved You So Long
5) Shooting Stars
The Picture House is my go-to when I'm feeling lonely. I saw Shooting Stars this past week on a whim, I went by myself to avoid the cold of my house and was given such a nice surprise. Shooting Stars is an old silent film, a 1920s British story about a celebrity couple, the wife falls in love with a British Charlie Chaplin and tried to kill her husband to get rid of him. BUT -- the best part was that an old man sat down at a piano right near the front of the movie screen and played the music accompaniment throughout the whole film. It was wonderful! Watching the old film reels (the edges slightly off-focus), this being a movie that you literally can't get on dvd, and also watching the little old man putting his whole body into the music.
