Cold, cold ears.

Cold and wet today, though I managed to dodge the rain (it was off and on) til I left a poetry reading around 8. Night-times and cold and wet and the road home being worked on so you hafta walk on and off wobbly gravel and mud were not all on my agenda for the evening, but they happened. The good bit was the poetry reading -- a local guy called James Nash read for a LGBT event and it was really good, I really liked his poetry and especially how he spoke. That usually does it for me. A good voice and a good poem are incredible together. I've noticed one thing about English, one thing that clinches poetry for me, one thing that sets it apart from most languages: compound nouns. You can hyphenate things, stick them together, add dashes to make a phrase, stick them really close to each other and create a new taste or smell or something. I don't think you can do that in other languages. Or at least not Spanish, as far as I know.

Thanksgiving dinner this Thursday here at 2 Delph Mount -- and we're going all out, or as far out as you can go without cooking a turkey! We're even making hand-turkeys with construction paper. My housemates are really into it, and really proud of getting a REAL Thanksgiving dinner from a REAL American (half American, anyway). A lot of pressure for me, but I'm sure it'll be great. I had practice cooking last year, and since this is *my* Thanksgiving, I get to cook all the dishes I like and leave out the ones I don't! Well, if it were really up to me I'd cook about 4 pies and leave it at that, but I wanna make it good for them. I can't wait!
